Wade Hampton Stanturf

WADE HAMPTON AND HELEN MILDRED (GIBSON) STANTURF
Wade Hampton Stanturf (March 12, 1905 - October 10, 1984) and Helen Mildred Gibson (August 10, 1907 - October 9, 1993) were married on June 12, 1926, in Princeton, Missouri, by Judge Lucien May. Wade was the fourth child of Henry Aaron and Etta Belie (Barnes) Stanturf, joining Truman and sisters Mona, Estelle and May who died in infancy.
Their parents were early settlers in Medicine Township, coming from western Pennsylvania and settling on Honey Creek near Half Rock in southeast Mercer County. Helen was the daughter of Clarence William and Birdie (Riggs) Gibson.
The farmhouse pictured was the birthplace of Wade having been purchased ca 1900 by his father. He was only the third owner from the time it had been homesteaded. This old house was replaced in 1962 with a new one.
After their marriage they continued to make their home with Wade's parents on the family farm until their deaths, Henry in 1938 and Etta Belie in 194ยท1. They sold the farm in 1973, retired and moved to Trenton, Missouri, to live the remainder of their lives.
Both Wade and Helen had a great love for working the soil and always wanted to leave it better than they found it. At the time they sold the family farm, it was one of the best farms in Medicine Township. Their love for growing things was evident by the large garden and flowers at their new home in Trenton which was their pride and joy.
They were the parents of four children.
(1) Mildred M. married Jack Virlin Robinson (April 23, 1924 November 5, 1990). Mildred lives in Trenton. They had two sons, Chris Verlin and Carey Mark.
(2) Marilyn Joy and husband James R. Brown live on their farm near Modena. Their sons are Stanley J., Terry Hampton and Rickey Lynn.
(3) Nelda Jane and husband Russell Evans Hobbs (see history) live near Ravanna on their farm. They have five sons, Randy E., R. Duane, R. Dee, W. Cregory and Billy J.
(4~ William Henry married Elaine Wells. He is a Baptist minister, pastoring the First Baptist Church of Lineville, Iowa. They have a home in Trenton. Their four daughters are Patricia (Vernon) Sawyer, Linda (Charles) Washburn, Rebecca and Judy (Kevin) Mantle. A son, William Harvey, died in infancy.
Wade, his children and first grandchild were born in this old house in the same.room. Wade and Helen are buried in Half Rock. They left a legacy of love for their Lord, family and work for their children, 24 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren to cherish.
