The marriage of Wynant, son of John, to Nancy Linville was the first reported marriage in the Buffalo Settlement in what would become part of Ray County. The histories have it that there was no minister as of yet in the area, and they had to travel quite a long way to the east to find a minister to perform the ceremony.
