John Sr. Sevier Gen.

General John Sevier served as a Commissiary and Colonel in the NorthCarolina Line during the Revolutionary War. He was one of the Colonel'sin command at the Battle of King's Mountain, and he served in severalIndian Campaigns against the Cherokee Indians, two of them being majorcampaigns. He was the 1st Militia General of Tennessee Territory (Head ofState) of the State of Franklin cir 1783. Was the first Governor ofTennessee cir 1796-1801, and 1803-1809. A United States Congressman1789-1791 and 1811-1815.
John married his 1st wife Sarah Hawkins (not listed in pension records), around 1761. Sarah was the sister of Rebecca Hawkins who married John Crockett Sr., which, were the parents of Davy Crockett. The children listed as surviving children, of John Sevier, in the pension records, are: James age 74, in 1838.
John married his 2nd wife Catharine Sherrill on 14 August 1780 in East Tennessee. Children shown on Pension records to this union are:George Washington, Samuel, Robert, Elizabeth McClelland, Mary Overstreet,Joanna, and a step child ? - Mary Ann Garland.
John died 24 September 1815, near Decatur, Alabama, while on amilitary mission for P. (President) Madison, listed next to thisinformation is (Dartmoor Prision).
Catharine died in Russellville, Alabama, on 2 October 1836, at theage of 80 years.
John's pension was filed by his children, and the certificate wasissued 31 May 1839. The only listed children surviving in 1855, wereRobert Sevier and Elizabeth McClelland.

James Sevier Maj.

James married Nancy Conway, on 29 March 1789. (Pension recordsindicate James married nine years after his father John, married for the2nd time.) Nancy was the daughter of Colonel Henry Conway.
James Sevier served in a North Carolina Line. He was living inWashington Co., North Carolina (now Tennessee) at the time of enlistment,and served in his uncle's company, (Captain Robert Sevier). Later, Jamesserved at the Battle of King's Mountain, where his uncle Captain RobertSevier was mortally wounded. He enlisted again, under Captain LandonCarter's company, and was in the battle of Boyd's Creek. He enlistedagain under his father's command, for a South Carolina campaign, and waswith a party that captured 100 British soldiers near Monk's Corner. Hisuncle Colonel Richard Campbell was killed at the battle of EutawSprings. He later enlisted again, and served under his father, ColonelJohn Sevier's Cherokee Indian campaigns. Pension records show James alsoserved with an older brother (Unnamed). There is also a reference to aColonel William Campbell of Virginia, relationship not stated.
